Thread Painting - Tweetie Set

What did I do today? Welllll… I took my very first official quilting class at Aunt Mary’s Quilt Shop called “Thread Painting” with Judy Irish. I’m a complete novice when it comes to free motion quilting, so I was pretty nervous, but Judy and my classmates were so disarming, and I really found her free spirit liberating. So here is my handiwork, after four hours of experience. I used some of my own designs from our TWEETIE mod set as a template, and I am feeling like with lots of practice I might be able to get a hang of it

Okay, maybe with LOTS and LOTS of practice. It was still fun even if I had no idea what I was doing… like coloring with crayons on blank paper.

Esther’s Breakfast Dance

We do what we can to help get the kids going in the morning so that they can get to the bus stop on time. I usually throw in some music, and Esther’s job is to do her Breakfast Dance. Oh yeah, she takes it very seriously, no time to stop and chew her food… no she runs to the table grabs a bite of her cheerios, and then gets back to her dancing. It’s very helpful!

Double Bluff Beach

We decided to play hooky and visit the beach. Most of the beaches here are rocky, like not for the barefeet, but Double Bluff is tucked away on south Whidbey Island… relatively unknown to the tourists… so it’s always quiet, and sandier than most. It was a crisp day, but clear, we couldn’t ask for more!

Clippin Coupons

So my sisters are all a buzz about coupon clipping. We all love to save money, so I thought I would share some of their finds. Here are Lisa’s favorites and she is in Western Washington by me, but a lot of these might apply to stores in your area:

Betty Crocker Savings
www.smartsource.com
www.coupons.com
www.couponmom.com

You should also check out www.upromise.com it allows you to link your Safeway, Albertsons and other grocery savings card to save money for your kids for college when you buy selected items like Huggies.

Sandra sent me her favorites, she is in Utah, and a self admitting coupon addict. Here are her finds…

moneysavingmom.com
commonsensewithmoney.com
frugalisfab.blogspot.com
notlivingwithout.blogspot.com
freebies4mom.blogspot.com
pinchingyourpennies.com

The last one is a forum where you can talk with others about coupons, sales, sweeps, etc.  It is also great to look at the getting started forums to really learn how to use the coupons to the best advantage.

One great deal to take advantage of, if you want to, is at Walgreens.  They are selling the Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner for $19.99, but they will give you $10 back on a monthly rebate and if you print the coupon online for another $10 off, you will get the Shower Cleaner for free.  That is just one of the great deals she found this week.

Crazy Quilting Halloween

Last year I put together a crazy quilt with some halloween colors, random costume fabric, some buttons, and ribbon, and voilla! I tucked it away in my storage box ready for this year, and then couldn’t find my box again! Matt to the rescue, went and scoured the garage full of boxes, until the hidden treasure emerged. If I could I would keep it out all year, but uh, I don’t have any orange or purple furniture. I need to label my storage better, or color coordinate.

Comments or Bust

Since I started our little blog, I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for our first comment! I would check and double check like the lady on that old Black Friday ad who chants at the store window…. Open, Open, Open. So today I have been informed our comments aren’t working. Of Course they aren’t! The universe says, hee hee, gotcha. So off I will go and figure this thing out. What a production!

:Update:
Success! Thank you to those who brought the problem to our attention :) Comment Away!

I love Paris in the Fall?

So I’m not a world traveler. I’m a real homebody. I LOVE the Pacific Northwest, I love the rain, I love grey skies, and I seriously can’t get enough. I’m close enough, so I’ve been to Canada, and some parts of the Western U.S. but that’s just about it. I imagine someday I’ll venture out of my beloved corner of the eath, but until then, I get to just imagine what it must be like in other parts of the world.

I’m working on a Paris Design Set for Machine Embroidery. It’s in it’s refining stages… but I’m liking it, so I thought I would share.

Polka Dot Pinwheels

So I have been wanting to create a whimsical quilt to hang on my wall in my entry. I love polka dots (could you tell) so I decided to go with a pinwheel pattern. Loosely based on a pattern at Fat Quarter Shop I decided to go with black and white. It’s turning out delightful, I can’t wait to hang it, and just in time for Halloween. If you’re looking for free quilt patterns check out Quilter’s Cache. What a collection! You may want to turn down your volume though, there’s music on every page… eek.

And cousin Joseph came over for a visit, so we enjoyed some Milk and a chat :)
Doesn’t get any better then that!
